Writing

I have a knack for interviewing and making people feel comfortable. I always ask the person to email me their bio and a couple of quotes ahead of time. I begin every interview with prayer. Before I ask my pre-determined questions, I look for a common thread and work quickly to build that person’s trust. Mostly, my interviews feel like conversations between two friends. As we both relax, I am able to get a closer look at the driving forces in their life.

As a Christian freelance writer, I authored 140 articles, religion features and devotionals for my hometown paper, The Covington News, www.covnews.com – go to archive, Colleen Jackson.

I’m currently polishing a vacation bible school program I wrote to accompany my album, “I’m A Champion”. I have commitments to place the program in several local churches before marketing the package.

In February 2008, I welcomed the opportunity to write the first of 13 articles for The Alcovy Magazine, a bi-monthly publication for a tri-county area.

In the August/September 2001 issue of Clowning Around Magazine, I wrote about my experience at a world clown convention as “Joyismine, the Clown” and described the magic of entertaining children at Disney World.

My college publication, Creative License, published three of my poems, Spring, 1993. Other favorites were featured in anthologies, Treasured Poems of America, 1992 and East of the Sunrise, 1995.

My first book of poetry, “Joy Is Mine” is scheduled to be released by December, 2009.

I’ve enjoyed writing and directing plays for several local churches

I have always loved to journal. I’m so thankful for writer friends who taught me the value of editing and re-writing. I learned to use life’s experiences to show how God brings joy. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 “Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”
